You make use of two types of abilities during battle: Job Commands and Support Abilities. Job Commands are standard commands that the character uses during battle -- things like magic and attacks. Support Abilities are abilities whose effects are automatic without command input -- things like +10% HP, or a knight's ability to cover a party member who's in trouble.
Bravely Default: Fourth Character Revealed, Fourth Demo Coming Soon
The identity of Bravely Default's mysterious fourth character has ben revealed in this week's Jump.

According to Tales Source, which gets Jump in advance, the character's name is Ringabel (in Japanese, リングアベル -- feel free to suggest a better romanization).
Of course, what we've really been wondering since the character's artwork first appeared on the game's soundtrack jacket earlier this month is, male or female? The answer is male -- and quite the male at that! Ringabel is a young man who's lost his memory and is traveling the land in the hopes of courting a girl. He has in his possession the "D Notebook," which provides him with prophesies of things to come.
Outside of an introduction to the 4th char, the magazine reveals that the game has a unique summon system. Using Wi-Fi (it's unclear if this is StreetPass or manual Wi-Fi exchanges), you'll be able to exchange your character with others. You can call out characters you've received this way into battle as summons.
Jump's Bravely Default reveals are always accompanied by word of an upcoming demo release. This is the case here. The game's fourth demo will be coming soon, the magazine says. This could mean we'll get the demo next week, so get your 3DS ready!
4. Demo is ja bereits raus, nun wurde auch gleich mal die 5. angekündigt, diese soll aber gleich die letzte sein. und anscheinend wurde auch feedback von spielern der ersten 4 demos berücksichtigt.
New Bravely Default Details Revealed During Nico Nico Broadcast
Square Enix held a live presentation for Bravely Default at Nico Nico Live earlier today. Here's a bit of what was revealed during the event, as compiled at Game Jouhou:
You can skip the animations for summon spells
New jobs include Valkyrie, Ninja and Summoner
The game will offer a variety of methods for recovering your BP
The hit count during attacks is determined by your job's level
The broadcast also had mention of yet another demo. The game's fifth demo will be its last one. You'll be able to carry over some elements into the final build.
Release und Demo 5 rücken näher in großen schritten, dementsprechend bewegen wir uns newstechnisch nun wohl auch näher an spoilerland heran:
Bravely Default: New Jobs, Wireless Details, and the ***
Spoiler
Show
The latest issue of Jump has a new look at Bravely Default Flying Fairy, with new job, character and gameplay details. Tales Source has a summary.
The magazine reveals that the game will have valkyrie, summon master and hunter jobs.
On the gameplay front, there's some mention of a wireless system called "Abilink." This is presumably short for "Ability Link." We don't have specifics, but it seems that this system will help with strengthening your characters.
Character details include a look at Blood Rose, a special forces group within the army. This group consists of four members: Einferia Venus, Meferia Venus, Altemis Venus and Fore Derose. The first three girls are sisters. Einferia, the eldest, learned from the same teacher as one of the main characters, Idea. Her little sisters listen to no one but her. The fourth character puts on the appearance of a bum walking around the streets, but he's actually leader of the Blood Rose group (I'm assuming Fore Derose is male because his voice actor is male. This may not be correct).
