Rick Rubin sieht den tablettenabhängigen und total runtergekommenen Cash in einem Diner vor desinteressiertem Publikum spielen und beschließt, mit ihm ein Album aufzunehmen. Viele Cover, ziemlich reduzierter Sound und ziemlich düsteres Zeug. Daraus wurden dann mehrere Alben, wobei mir persönlich die gecoverten Songs am besten gefallen. Und ja, Mercy Seat ist ein echt guter Song.
Aus der Reihe (American-Recordings) ist auch eine Coverversion von Hurt (Trent Reznor), ziemlich dramatisch, ziemlich gut.


Mal gerade auf Wikipedia nachgeschlagen, was Rubin so alles produziert hat. Ich wusste ja, dass er vielseitig und umtriebig ist, aber das übertrifft die Erwartung dann doch.

Das Trent Reznor Cover (oder wars Nine Inch Nails?) von Cash kenne ich natürlich und halte es sogar für besser als das Original.

Eins der von Rubin produzierten Alben hatte ich auch mal. Weiß der Geier bei welchem Umzug das verloren gegangen ist.
